Introduction
The smartphone market has seen growing interest in foldable phones and giants like Google are also taking a shot at it. The Pixel Notepad, the anticipated foldable smartphone from Google will be soon in the international markets. Google's foldable is expected to be called the Pixel Notepad, not the Pixel Fold as previously rumoured. The whispers about Pixel fold have been available online for quite some time now. However, we can expect the Google Pixel Notepad to be available internationally by the end of 2022. It will also be very interesting to see how Google will manage to keep the pricing low for its first foldable phone as compared to Samsung’s Z Fold.
Pixel Notepad design and display
When it comes to foldable smartphones, Samsung has set a template that all the new foldables seem to follow. The design is mostly rumoured to be a little similar to Oppo Find N, meaning it's short and wide. Foldables are a bit of a niche form factor at the moment, so any experimentation can be a surprise to the market. We can expect the Pixel Notepad to have the same Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide (LTPO) display the Pixel 6 Pro has. This means that the refresh rate can run from 1Hz to 120Hz, allowing the phone to conserve power where necessary yet operate smoothly. There are no other numbers known in regards to the display as of now.
Pixel notepad expected specs
Everyone is expecting the Pixel Notepad to be powered by Google’s Tensor chip, coupled with up to 12GB RAM and 512GB storage. It's not the fastest chip around, but it is good enough to beat some of the leading competitors. Pixels have traditionally had good cameras. Google’s Pixel phones are used to keeping up with powerful camera hardware. The main camera will be the tried-and-tested 12.2MP IMX363 sensor. This will apparently be joined by a 12MP ultra-wide camera, along with two 8MP selfie cameras. Not much is known about the specifications, but we can expect more rumours about the Pixel Notepad as the launch date comes closer.
Google foldable phone expected price making competition fierce
Rumours currently suggest that the Pixel Notepad will land in late 2022. According to reports, the Pixel Notepad is expected to be priced in the same range as regular foldable smartphones. According to the word on the street, Google Pixel Notepad could start around $2100 NZD. This makes it substantially cheaper than the starting price of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3. If Google can manage to keep the prices low as expected then it would be interesting to see how it beats the launch of Samsung’s foldable. Based on rumours, it does not appear that the company is compromising on the specifications front because of the low pricing levels.
Conclusion
These are still early days and we might not hear concrete news for a couple of more months. However, from what we know, it is safe to guess that Google’s foldable is set to shake the foldable devices market. The tech giant’s folding Pixel Notepad may have a design that somewhat resembles a Notebook. This means that it will be a little shorter and wider than other folding phones on the market. We also know that Google Pixel Notepad will be giving fierce competition in terms of price to existing foldable smartphones. Going by the standard Pixel range, it will probably also have decent cameras and good overall performance. Whether it is called Google Fold or Pixel Notepad, we all have our eyes on this new experiment by Google.
