What to expect from this year’s iPhone launch
- 14 Jun, 2021
Introduction
There are tons of rumours that surround every Apple lineup. Apple iPhone 13 is not very far from its official launch now and the users are expecting some major improvements. You can anticipate that the all-new iPhone 13 will launch in September 2021. There is a lot of curiosity and excitement in the market because of this new launch. You can expect the iPhone 13 to answer most of your wishes.
Will Apple name it iPhone 13 or something else?
Some rumours suggest that the new iPhone will be called iPhone 13 by taking the series a digit ahead while according to some rumors it might be called iPhone 12s. After the launch of iPhone X right after iPhone 8, Apple made its naming scheme a little unpredictable by skipping iPhone 9. Based on the past, the 2021 iPhone lineup could be either the iPhone 12s or iPhone 13.
What will change in the new iPhone Design?
Apple never makes too many changes when it comes to its designs. The most noticeable physical changes to the 2021 iPhone could be the large camera bump and smaller notch. The 2021 iPhone models are not expected to feature major design changes because the 2020 iPhone models marked significant design modifications. But you can expect Apple to offer unique colours to become a differentiator.
iPhone 13 is rumored to be available in four models. We can expect iPhone 13 mini with 5.4-inches, iPhone 13 with 6.1-inches, iPhone 13 Pro with 6.1-inches, and iPhone 13 Pro Max with 6.7-inches. The models are also expected to be slightly heavier due to larger batteries. The Pro models will be 0.2mm thicker, in order to facilitate a larger battery, and will feature a much larger and thicker rear camera unit.
Display
Rumors suggest that iPhone 13 will have a smoother display when playing games or scrolling through your feed. There is also news that Apple is considering the use of an under-display fingerprint scanner in addition to Face ID as an alternate biometric authentication method. But there are some other major improvements in the display that users have been waiting for.
- Arrival of 120 Hz display in latest iPhones: Everyone expected 120 Hz ProMotion display in the 12 lineup but we think it was saved for iPhone 2021. It will be Apple’s first 120 Hz display and in order for this to be implemented Apple needs to adopt LTPO display technology which is also rumored to be included in the new iPhone.
- LTPO Displays for Pro Models: Apple will be using OLED displays with low-power LTPO backplane technology, which will pave the way for 120Hz refresh rates. But the other Pro models of iPhone 2021 will be paired with LTPO, which are the ones that are also rumored to adopt ProMotion technology.
What to expect from the camera department
Apple has made some notable changes with its camera by introducing improvements in low light performance and stabilization by reducing camera shake. The standard iPhone 13 model with dual-lens camera setup could see the lenses arranged diagonally rather than a vertical design. The users can also expect an upgraded Ultra-wide camera, improved autofocus, larger sensor, among much more.
- Larger Sensor: Apple’s improved camera technology for iPhone 2021 is said to be supported by larger sensors along with the Sensor-Shift Stabilization feature for better auto-focus and stabilization across the lineup.
- Lidar in every variant: We have also heard that portrait mode on the new Pro iPhones will be enhanced by increased use of the LiDAR scanner. The scanner will allow for more realistic AR experiences and improve autofocus in low-light scenes.
Boosting Performance with A15 Bionic Chip
Apple is said to use a 5nm+ A15 chip manufactured by TSMC for the 2021 iPhones. The introduction of the Apple A15 Bionic Chip in the new iPhone 2021 lineup will provide further efficiency improvements. There is not so much known about the A15 chip at this point, but it will definitely bring improvements in speed, performance, and efficiency.
Expected release date for the newest iPhone
Apple has been observed to follow the traditional September launch timeline for almost all its series launches. We are expecting the same for iPhone 2021’s launch in New Zealand. We can speculate that the company will likely launch the new device in the third week of September.
Conclusion
The rumors around the launch of the new iPhone have pretty much created a complete image of the smartphone. With the launch of iPhone 13 in late September 2021, we could see some drastic changes that will affect day-to-day use. We will definitely see a major shift with new technologies pushing the device forward.
